By Makena & Mya (Grade 5 & Kindergarten)
The Assignment: Each family in the school were encouraged to decorate a sweater made out of Bristol board in a festive way, for December.
Makena came up with a plan to paint their school’s Seaquarium on the sweater and make it look like the sea creatures decorated for Christmas. She drew a plan and Mya contributed ideas.
Mya, in Kindergarten, painted the black top and bottom of the tank and the gravel, water, large rock, surf grass, barnacles, and the sea cucumber.
Makena, in Grade 5, painted the rest, using acrylic paint and Posca Markers (acrylic paint markers).
Their school displayed all of the decorated sweaters in the hallway with the sisters’ sweater placed right next to the Seaquarium.
Comment from the teacher: “Thank you for this wonderful Seaquaria program! My class and my own two children have learned so much about the Salish Sea since our school got the Seaquaria Program, and, most importantly, they have learned to care about our local environment around Victoria and become environmental stewards.”
