World Oceans Week Activity Booklet
Grade ALL
We prepared 3 activities in this booklet to help celebrate and learn about some of our ocean organisms! We encourage you to display your finished artwork in your windows during World Oceans Week Victoria (June 7 to June 14, 2020).
We included mini lessons with each of the activities so you can learn as you craft! If you want to save paper, we recommend only printing the activity pages.
Species Research Booklet
Grade 3-7
This is a guided research project perfect for discovering the biology and ecology of an interesting species! The booklet contains questions that will guide the students in discovering their chosen species’ diet, habitat, adaptations, predators, and life-cycle. Each topic also contains a drawing activity to exercise the student’s creativity!

Diversity and Classification
Grade 5-8
Students will use careful observations to understand the diversity of living organisms, produce an accurate scientific drawing based on the students’ own observations, and will produce a classification key for the animals they have observed.
Creating a Marine Team
Grade K-6
This lesson provides students with a hands-on opportunity to interact with and feel a sense of responsibility for the well-being of animals in students’ local environment. It also connects to their general knowledge and builds deeper awareness of their local environment.
Charter of Rights and Freedoms
Grade 5
The objective is to understand the individual rights and freedoms of Canadians in terms of equality and fairness by considering how to address the corresponding needs of individual inhabitants of the Seaquarium.
Being a Scientific Observer
Grade 3-5
Students will observe and record the locations of animals and plants in the Seaquarium with the goal of determining what facts are, recording factual observations, and introducing the students to the animals in the Seaquarium.
Community Mapping
Grade 4-5
This activity was done at Vic West Elementary School in Victoria, B.C. in 2002. It was a hugely successful project that allowed everyone to see how powerful it can be when students are learning about things that are directly relevant to them.
Plant Adaptations to Life on Shore
Grade K-12
This lesson plan could supplement a field trip down to the beach where students can learn about the various species of plants that inhabit certain parts of the beach environment.
